All monsters are hideous and fearful, but some are worse than others. There is only one whose hair is made of slithering serpents, only one with skin of scales, and only one whose very gaze can turn man, beast, or God to stone. Medusa, the Gorgon. Stories claim she was beautiful once. A priestess of Athena. Loyal and devout in action, but Poseidon was determined to make her his own. It was the fairness of her features, the golden of her hair, that attracted the Sea God.
Medusa, a mortal maiden, could not refuse. When Athena learned of Medusa’s betrayal, she punished the priestess. Those fair features were hideously wrought and those golden locks twisted to hissing vipers. Anyone that met her eyes was petrified — a statue for all eternity.
Those who gazed into her eyes would turn to stone. Most sources describe her as the daughter of Phorcys and Ceto , although the author Hyginus makes her the daughter of Gorgon and Ceto. The 2nd-century BC novelist Dionysios Skytobrachion puts her somewhere in Libya , where Herodotus had said the Berbers originated her myth, as part of their religion. She remained a priestess to Athena after her death and was risen with fresh hair. Medusa was raped by Poseidon then beheaded by the hero Perseus , who thereafter used her head, which retained its ability to turn onlookers to stone, as a weapon until he gave it to the goddess Athena to place on her shield.
In classical antiquity the image of the head of Medusa appeared in the evil-averting device known as the Gorgoneion.

Circa BC. Several versions of myths concerning the Gorgons were related by ancient Greek authors. The earliest known written accounts were by Homer and Hesiod, probably some time between the 8th – 7th centuries BC. Homer only mentions the terrifying Gorgon’s head the Gorgoneion see below. Another, perhaps more extensive account of the myth of Perseus and the Gorgons was written by the poet Pherecydes, around the first half of the 5th century BC, in the second book of his Genealogies. Only fragments of the account survive in an ancient scholion commentary on the Argonautica by Apollonius Rhodius.
It was also referred to in the Library of Pseudo Apollodorus. According to the Roman mythographer Hyginus see Medusa part 2 , the sisters were the daughters of Keto and Gorgon, who was one of the many monstrous children of the Titans Typhon and Echidna:. Developmental venous anomalies DVAs , also known as venous angiomas, are a well-recognized congenital malformation of small veins that drain into a larger central vein Fig. In the past, when neurosurgeons tried to operate them, it was like to strange facial expression of Medusa because of the difficulties and bad outcome of these vascular malformations. Nowadays, there is still a controversy surrounding the natural history and significance of these unusual vein formations, but the terrible appearance of these malformations is no longer frightening for pediatric neurosurgeons as they do not need to be surgically removed, closed, or radiated owing to the high risk of postoperative deterioration caused by venous infarction and their functional importance in getting blood in and out of the brain [ 2 , 3 ].
In general, most of the experts believe that these anomalies provide a useful and important blood draining function. As a result, DVAs are considered to be benign and passive in nature even though some believe that they may contribute to other serious malformations—arteriovenous malformation and cavernoma—with high risk for stroke.

KIU – Summer Date. By kenyizsu Watch. Poseidon was Medusa knew that was just about the understatement of the epoch, but she couldn’t help stating it. She really did try everything to drive him away: threats, raging, throwing stuff. But nothing truly worked. Poseidon would retreat to a respectable distance, but wouldn’t leave for good. After a while, Medusa was starting to feel bad about her own attitude towards the other, as the violent reactions just refused to show up.
She couldn’t really recall why she agreed to this proposed lunch at the beach. Part of her believed it was just a stupid joke. Yeah right, a date with the shunned Goddess of Darkness, like that’s ever gonna happen So naturally, Medusa forgot how to speak when Poseidon presented her an actual beach side table with actual food he actually made himself.
